One third of the content available on the Internet today is pornography. Most children and adults have viewed pornography online at least once. Furthermore, the type of pornographic content that is available and accessible to anyone with an Internet connection consists of hardcore, violent and amateur images and videos that some would argue, no one should be exposed to, let alone a child.
Anyone with Internet access is vulnerable to viewing porn, even if they do not search for it. Once a child, teen or adult is exposed to pornography, there is some likelihood that they may be exposed again, either accidentally or on purpose. Exposure can lead to trauma, to addiction and to worse phenomena. This is not to say that anyone who sees a pornographic image will suffer devastating consequences. But researchers and psychiatrists know that exposure to pornography can have similar effects on the brain to drugs.
We believe that in the same way that we are able to control the books and magazines that enter our homes and that the programming available on television is regulated, there needs to be control of the Internet content that we can access. However, the nature of the Internet to date, does not provide for any monitoring or regulations. So it is up to each family to ensure that pornography is not available at the click of a mouse.
Without a porn filter, pornography is free and available. Take responsibility, install a porn filter and block pornography from your home and office computers.
