More FAQs

There is a site that is blocked that I want to be able to access. How can I continue to block a category of content and allow a specific site from that category?

You can refine the web filter to work as you need it to. By creating a personal list of sites to allow, the filter will always allow those sites to be viewed, even if they belong to a blocked category. Go to filter admin => "Personal URL List" to add the sites you want the filter to ignore. Add sites as follows: www.mysite.com/* Note that you have to add the sites with slash and asterisk at the end. After adding the sites to allow, you should restart your web browser.

I used the trial license and purchased a full license. Why do I still receive a "license expired" message?

In order to activate the license you must register the license that you have received. Right-click on the OPTENET icon on your desktop and then click on: OPTENET PC WEB FILTER ADMINISTRATION. Enter your password when prompted. Then, choose "REGISTRATION" from the left menu. You can then enter your license in the "New License Code" fields. BE AWARE: you must use small letters and enter the exact code. Then click on "Change license code". The "Current Status" should then indicate in green "Registered". We recommend that you restart your computer after entering the license key.

How should I uninstall Optenet PC from my computer?

Go into START then ALL PROGRAMS then OPTENET. Here you will find the option UNINSTALL OPTENET. Follow the instructions. Note that you will need to enter your password to complete the process.

There is a site that I want to block, but I don't want to block the entire category that it belongs to. How can I define a specific site to be blocked?

You can refine the web filter to work as you need it to. By creating a personal list of sites to block, the filter will always block those sites, even if they belong to a category that is allowed. Go to filter admin => "Personal URL List" to add the sites you want the filter to block. Add sites as follows: www.mysite.com/* Note that you have to add the sites with slash and asterisk at the end. After adding the sites to block, you should restart your web browser.

I think a site that should be blocked is being allowed through the filter. How can I inform Optenet?

A unique feature to Optenet is that users can contribute greatly to the increasing accuracy of the filter by informing Optenet of new web sites that should be categorized. From the Administration, select "Contribution". Enter the website address and our Review Department will check the site you sent us and classify it in the corresponding category. Once the page has been checked, it will be classified in one of the filtering categories. In addition, if you give us your e-mail address, you will be informed about your request.

I have been blocked from a site that I do not think should be blocked. Can I inform Optenet so this will not happen again?

Yes. When you are blocked from reaching a page, the blocking page includes the option for you to submit the page for review. If the page is incorrectly categorized, it will be updated in the database. There is an option to submit your address and to receive confirmation once the site is updated.
